Project Update 11

13 August 2025

We are pleased to share our eleventh bulletin update on the progress of the Crisis & Emergency Response Reform Project.

Service Design Sector Engagement Overview

Through broad engagement with diverse sector stakeholders, our Service Design (Phase 3) engagement series aimed to build a shared understanding of the current crisis system, define a vision for an improved future state, and explore the design of new or redesigned services.

During this phase, we were pleased to have engaged over 130 professionals across a range of related services, including acute health services, AOD services, community health services, disability services, First Nations organisations, government agencies, lived/living experience-led organisations, peak bodies, and youth mental health providers.

Engagement activities were structured around the five service models under development (Clinical Assistance, Crisis Telehealth, Crisis Outreach, Crisis Stabilisation, Drop-in Safe Spaces). We held model-specific workshops which enabled us to capture insights from those directly involved in delivering, coordinating, and supporting mental health crisis responses, and to understand how each proposed service could contribute to a more integrated and effective future system.

We are pleased to release the System & Service Design Sector Engagement Overview with this bulletin, which captures the key system and service insights gathered throughout this engagement series.

We invite your reflections and welcome written responses via this survey link before Friday 29th August, specifically to the following questions:

  • Do the insights in the paper resonate with your own observations or expertise?
  • Do you have any further design considerations to contribute for any of the five service models?
  • If you were a participant in any of our service design workshops, we welcome your feedback on your experience.

Next steps
Following the release of our consultation engagement summaries, our next bulletin will provide further design outputs with an opportunity for further feedback.
